Orientation to Workshop

  • Part 1: Life Stress or Scale
  • Part 2: Professional Quality of Life Scale
  • Part 3: Wellness Wheel
  • Part 4: Journal Activity

This session will allow participants to reflect on where they are now in their life and career as well as reflect on their overall satisfaction. There will be discussion on qualify of life and where you are in the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

9:45–10:45 am

The Nursing Practice Environment

  • Part 1: Micro Aggressions 
  • Part 2: Generations

This session will discuss the successes and challenges nurses face in their professional practice. Generational differences, microaggressions and the changing bedside environment will be considered.

10:45–11 am

11:00 am–12:30 pm

Stress–Guided Imagery Exercise

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on sources of stress in their life and professional role. Participants will be able to partake in exercises that will ease tension and stress.

This session will allow participants to recognize losses that occur in the workplace and what affect they have on a personal, physical, psychological and spiritual level.

Compassion Fatigue/Burnout

  • Part 1: Compassion Fatigue Inventory
  • Part 2: Art Activity/Humor

The presenters will discuss compassion fatigue and burnout and help participants understand why they occur. Participants will learn ways to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout in their professional life.

Empowerment–Positive Affirmations

Having a sense of control and a vested interest in your practice translates into positive impacts in your life. The presenters will discuss the role of empowerment and demonstrate how you can empower yourself in your professional role.

Find out why resiliency is so vital to your professional role. Discover how to value yourself and begin to practice self-care.

Spirituality - Spiritual Inventory

Participants will consider the role of spirituality and how your belief system influences your professional practice.

Self-Care Planning

Participants will be given time to develop a self-care plan that can be put into practice.
