Bylaw Revision Notice
As the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses’ (APHON) Board of Directors continues to assess the association’s strengths and opportunities, as well as map out its future, they have identified an area of need among the membership and, in order to address the need, are proposing revisions to APHON’s Bylaws. The Board is making the following recommended changes:
- Proposing an “Emeritus” Membership Category
- Members who have retired from practice or have reached the age of sixty-five continue to play a vital role in our pediatric hematology/oncology nursing community. The Board is proposing that those who have been APHON members for ten years or longer may request a change in membership status at the time of renewal from Regular to Emeritus when they have reached the age of sixty-five or older and/or upon making the decision to enter retirement from nursing with no plans to return to active nursing practice. Emeritus members may not hold office; however, they retain voting rights and may continue to participate on committees and task forces. Emeritus members will receive an electronic-only copy of the Journal and will continue to receive all other regular membership benefits.
- Proposing minor grammatical changes throughout the document to more accurately reflect the Association’s purpose, practices, specialty, and nomenclature
To make the proposed revisions binding, APHON’s voting membership must approve them. During our virtual member business meeting on Wednesday, January 27th from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm Central Time, we will present the revised document and ask the voting membership to approve the proposed changes.
We would like to obtain any feedback you may have. Please submit any questions or comments about these proposed revisions by completing a brief survey by Monday, January 18th. While you will have a chance to comment and ask questions during the member business meeting, this interim step will allow the Board of Directors to consider member feedback and perhaps alter the proposed draft based on that feedback in a timelier manner.
Thank you for your consideration, as well as your continued support of the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses.
