Awards & Recognition

APHON members are eligible for awards that are presented to pediatric hematology/oncology nurses who have been recognized as going above and beyond in their participation in APHON.

Grant and scholarship opportunities are available to support continued education, research and evidence based practice in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing.

APHON Distinguished Awards

Dr. Nancy E. Kline Mentoring Award

Recognizes an APHON member who demonstrates excellence in mentoring within the APHON community.

Dr. Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award

Presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON.

Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award

Presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON in a given year.

APHON Evidence-Based Practice and Research Awards

APHON Evidence-Based Practice Early Career Researcher Award

Given to an early career nurse scientist.

APHON Evidence-Based Practice Distinguished Researcher Award

Given to a member who has excelled as a nurse scientist.

Dr. Cheryl C. Rodgers Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice Award

Created in honor of APHON member Dr. Cheryl C. Rodgers, who was instrumental in setting standards in putting evidence into practice.

Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing (JOPHON) Awards

Dianne Fochtman New Author Award

Presented to a first-time author of a manuscript accepted for publication in JOPHON in the last year and for whom this is the first or second time a manuscript has been published.

JOPHON Writing Award

Awarded to a first author of a manuscript accepted for publication in the journal in the last year and who has had three or more manuscripts published previously. Sponsored by SAGE Publications.

Local Chapter Excellence Award

Recognizes a local APHON chapter that has excelled in promoting the mission, vision, and goals of the association.

Local Chapter Community Service Award

Recognizes a local chapter that has made a significant contribution to the community.

APHON Poster Award Recognition

Poster Awards at APHON’s Annual Conference

Recognized at the APHON Annual Conference for their outstanding research and innovative ideas. These awards highlight the top three poster presentations and the People’s Choice, celebrating excellence in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing.

APHON Excellence Awards

Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Instructor of the Year Award

Recognizes an APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor who positively impacts the students they teach and the patients and families they serve by demonstrating leadership and excellence in the classroom.

APHON Excellence in Patient/Family Education Award

Recognizes an APHON member who is an outstanding patient and family educator and has developed proven practices that help patients and families understand the disease they face.

Jean Fergusson Excellence in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing Award

Recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional contributions in clinical practice or as outstanding educators.

Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) Award Opportunities

The following award programs are sponsored and administered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).

Certified Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse of the Year Award

Deadline: May 1

Recognizes the outstanding achievements of a CPON^® or CPHON^® in the areas of pediatric oncology nursing, oncology nursing service, and promotion of oncology nursing certification.

Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse of the Year Award

Deadline: November 15

Recognizes a BMTCN^® who has made significant contributions to BMT nursing; BMT nursing service; and who has supported and promoted BMT nursing and/or oncology nursing certification.

Roberta Scofield Memorial Certification Award

Deadline: September 15

Recognizes nurses who are committed to oncology nursing. Up to 150 applicants will receive a free registration for an ONCC certification examination or renewal by Option 1 (ILNA Points). The non-transferrable awards must be used for an ONCC certification registration for the year awarded.
