APHON Member Award Opportunities
APHON members are eligible for awards that are presented to pediatric hematology/oncology nurses who have been recognized as going above and beyond in their participation in APHON. Grant and scholarship opportunities are available to support continued education, research and evidence based practice in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing.
Dr. Nancy E. Kline Mentoring Award
Recognizes an APHON member who demonstrates excellence in mentoring.
Dr. Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award
Presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON.
Dr. Patricia Greene Leadership Award
Presented to an APHON member who has demonstrated excellence in service to and leadership of APHON in a given year.
Jean Fergusson Excellence in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing Education Award
Recognizes an outstanding educator in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology nursing through demonstration of proficiency, professional contributions to the field, and positive teacher-learner relationships.
Jean Fergusson Excellence in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing Practice Award
Recognizes a pediatric hematology/oncology nurse for compassion and expertise in clinical nursing practice and for actively incorporating research and new ideas into clinical practice.
APHON Excellence in Patient/Family Educational Materials Award
Recognizes an APHON member who is an outstanding patient and family educator and has developed proven practices that help patients and families understand the disease they face.
Dianne Fochtman New Author Award
Presented to a first-time author of a manuscript accepted for publication in JOPON in the last year and for whom this is the first or second time a manuscript has been published.
JOPON Writing Award
Awarded to a first author of a manuscript accepted for publication in the journal in the last year and who has had three or more manuscripts published previously.
APHON Counts Writing Award
Given to recognize contributing authors of APHON Counts.
APHON Distinguished Researcher Award
Given to a member who has excelled as a nurse scientist.
APHON Early Career Researcher Award
Given to an early career nurse scientist.
Dr. Cheryl C. Rodgers Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice Award
Recognizes an APHON member who has demonstrated high-quality contributions to evidence-based practice in the nursing care of children and their families in any area of hematology/oncology nursing practice.
APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor of the Year Award
Recognizes an APHON Pediatric Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Instructor who positively impacts the students they teach and the patients and families they serve by demonstrating leadership and excellence in the classroom.
Local Chapter Community Service Award
Recognizes a local chapter that has made a significant contribution to the community.
Local Chapter Excellence Award
Recognizes a local APHON chapter that has excelled in promoting the mission, vision, and goals of the association.
External Award Opportunities
The following are award programs that are administered by other organizations within the pediatric hematology/oncology nursing community.
Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse & Certified of the Year Award
Recognizes the outstanding achievements of a CPON® or CPHON® in the areas of pediatric oncology nursing, oncology nursing service, and promotion of oncology nursing certification. The CPON® of the Year award is sponsored and administered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.

Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse of the Year Award
Recognizes a BMTCN® who has made significant contributions to BMT nursing; BMT nursing service; and who has supported and promoted BMT nursing and/or oncology nursing certification. The BMTCN® of the Year award is sponsored and administered by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.

Roberta Scofield Memorial Certification Award
Recognizes nurses who are committed to oncology nursing. Up to 150 applicants will receive a free registration for an ONCC certification examination or renewal by Option 1 (ILNA Points). The non-transferrable awards must be used for an ONCC certification registration for the year awarded.
